As much the Kennedy Centre, the war in Iran and journalism appear as individual items of control, they are not. They are just the same from a pathological narcissist and are getting worse, daily. America has not seen how far Trump will go, however, by November 3rd you will see much worse. There will need to be a revolution to take back America or what’s left of it. Trump and his Reich will not turn over power willingly.

Hi, Cameron! This article was fantastic! I especially enjoyed your Tao Te Ching reference. You’re 100% right about the gentler approach versus the way of force and domination. I’ve just written a book called “Jesus and Lao Tzu: The Way of Love.” It’s a Christian companion to the Tao Te Ching. I’d love to chat with you about it. The reflection part of your post could well stand on its own. It is a powerful reminder to pay attention to our own habits of response in all the relationships of our lives-- especially in a time of heightened fragmentation when we are called to be skillful and ego-free in understanding one another. Be like water.

Your 3 examples are whirlpools in a growing maelstrom and I fully understand your need to re-visit them to illustrate your point. But, I have to admit that encountering them at the start of your post made me more exhausted. I thought, OH, no! One more substack listing the daily atrocities, that I already know and hear about constantly, when what I really needed was your reflection-- your brilliant help to spiritually and emotionally navigate through whatever we apply it to, without crashing or being overturned.

But "being like water" in this particularly cruel and erratic political maelstrom we are all in is so massively different from the need to " flow" in the shared brokenness of daily relationships with family, friends, colleagues. In the face of overt and corrupt madness, I have to constantly reinforce my complete, unwavering resistance to what is happening and to the people who are making it happen, without thinking I am crazy or just oppositional for some self-absorbed reason. There is no moral justification for what is happening. If I doubt my " nope", in this case, I get sucked into the whirlpools caused by seriously ill leadership, enabled and projected on us through a held role of extraordinary power. It does help to get out of my small boat and into a bigger, more sea-faring vessel with others. Your insightful reflections are a place apart from the daily onslaught and a critical piloting tool for that larger vessel to be more " sea-faring"! Thank, you.

oh dear...not sure where all this unlimited power invested in ONE MAN AND HIS CRONS are taking your Country and the World...it makes me pause and wonder where are the voices of the GOOD WOMEN AND MEN...PLEASE SPEAK UP or better still LISTEN TO THEIR VOICE.

For the life of me I cannot understand how this man can wield so much power. Maybe every other President had as much but our country relied on the morality of the people we elect? I just don't get it. We need to pull way back on the powers of the President. And the courts and everyone else need to stop being so afraid of him. And on another note, imagine trump coming into the cemeteries where your loved ones are buried and slapping his name on the tombstones. It's an abomination. It's personal.
