Am sitting in a beautiful suburb of Munich - where many sacrificed their lives so that there is democracy here. Especially remember 'Die weisse Rose' group today (I and my grandchildren have studied at that same university downtown). Grateful for all who opposed the dictator and his regime here and for those opposing the 'descended' dictator and regime over there.
I have always believed that telling stories of MEMORY is HOLY and of the SACRED ,,,let us not forgetting to tell the STORY ...that we all belong and which these reflections always remind us THAT WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER...Sacred Story Telling. Bless the Jewish people.
The only thing special about last night’s speech was, as he makes each speech they get worse.
In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.”
– Theodore Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt on Bravery
Well written reminder of the recurring theme in philosophy & lit: there are 2 deaths - that of your physical body, and when your name is last spoken. Some cultures foster memory systems to promote connection & continuity (e.g., Dia de los Muertos; or practices perhaps misnamed as ancestor worship).
Recently in the US we see conscious efforts to delete historical truths, to remove memories & names in order to narrow our awareness of how we got here. Ban certain books from school libraries, ‘adjust’ curriculum to remove so called DEI - eliminate knowing of so many Josephs/Josephines. In the philosophical context, this is a manner of killing. Elimination of our predecessors, their gifts to us, their mistakes from which we might learn. We are poorer when we work to shrink our awareness of the creator’s vast universe

We’re indebted to
who/what makes ‘this’ possible.
