One of the most egregious assaults on night is the unregulated spoiling of the night skies by satellites. I was horrified to learn that Musk brags of his plan to launch 1million satellites! Even as a careless brag, the shear, thoughtless arrogance leaves me both sad and astonished. The largest of our global commons, the night sky, is now something one individual imagines he can arrogate for his own ends.
Good morning, Rev. Cameron and thank you for reminding us that rest is just as essential as work. What does Jesus say? "For the night cometh when no one can work." Perhaps a slight tense change is in order: "For the night cometh when no one SHOULD work." Have a restful day.
Thank you for this important meditation! Our church book study is reading "Learning to Walk in the Dark" by Barbara Brown Taylor and this fits in perfectly with our discussions.
This meditation confirms that we are simply sleep-walking with respect to climate change, and indeed scary. I hope and pray that something or someone can wake us up before it is too late.
Truth! The loss of restful night where everything stops is a tragedy. I'm old enough to remember when, even in my fairly large city, I could look to the sky and see millions of stars. It was somehow very calming and exciting at the same time. Nowadays, the light pollution from our 24-hour lives prevents that.
