In fact, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and possibly other states are sending firefighting teams and equipment to help combat the fires, just as Canada has sent teams into the US to help fight our fires.
It’s hard to believe, but Donald Trump just said on TV that he doesn’t know why the fires are so much worse now than they were a few years ago…
America doesn’t appear to be willing to stop Trump. His 50% tariffs are convenient, I believe that Canada should stop all steel, aluminum, potash and hydro electric shipments to the US. Let’s see how Trump and Americans react then!!!
I’ve been thinking about this title line all day today. Thank you for sparking thoughts on how many things we share but rarely notice. I wonder, what if we noticed what connects more than we notice what separates us, what might become possible?
As a connected people and creation we are obliged to stop extraction practices that affect both people and the earth and learn how to be stewards to work and manage together for the health and well being of all. Yes, it will be a giant shift and will take time and collaborative effort. A covenant for a life-giving planet.
The absurdity of this administration’s actions and mindset are hard to fathom. I am aware that some of our Canadian neighbors came and helped with wildfires here. I deeply apologize and look forward to the day that trust can be rebuilt. I am reading Love Letter to the Earth by Thich Nhat Hanh. So beautiful and such a needed awakening for us all.
Thank you Cameron. Many of us Canadians directly blame certain people in the current US administration for much of what we hear and get. This situation underlines what happens when we forget ((or ignore) passages such as Psalm 24. For us who are Celtic and Creationist Christians, God created all of this. Fire, as our native peoples know, is to cleanse, renew, restore and part of this sacred creation. "Those who are close to the land are close to God," said my Irish grandfather. To lose that connection is something we cannot afford to do.
This is a beautiful reminder about how we are connected. I am Canadian and I do not agree with what seems to have has become a badge of honor in Canada- staying away from the U.S. I believe that as Cameron writes- we are all connected and meant to be, whether we have differences or not. I am trying to be a soapbox for us to not allow Trump to separate us further. We make trips to the U.S. and don’t hold the people responsible for the president’s actions. I can only imagine how difficult it is to be part of a country who has a president that seeks to divide. So let us practice our faith as Jesus taught- to love our neighbours whether we agree with or not……..And- I live in a part of the country where we have smoke from fires in the U.S. affecting our air- just saying- we are all in this together.
I believe that what defines the human, and all of life is BREATH....the LIFE SOURCE in everything. Let us learn to breath consciously to save ourselves and Mother Earth.

MN and Ontario have a long and ongoing collaboration for firefighting. They consult during the fair times and work together during fire season.
