Badly wounded, caged.

Big bold Bald Eagle needs care.

Will s/he fly again?

...

Eagle’s eyes, bandaged.

Faithful flock flies, feeds her ‘til

no longer bondaged.

...

Vital lessons here,

we can learn from past, for now.

Can help Eagle heal.

I spend my ministry reminding my congregations that the love of God is for all. I left ministry because I was tired and beat up --- most of the people didn't care or want to hear a message of love that was not centered on them. What is happening in our country is going to hurt all of God's children. I am thankful for you and your willingness to keep up the message of hope in this age of despair.

It is the salami. The forces of authoritarianism take one thin slice at a time. They assume we will not noticeand focus on what is left. By the time most people notice and act, they have taken the entire salami. Three parts to the solution: notice, care, and act.

My daughters are about your age and it chills me to be confronted with the truth of what you wrote: you have fewer rights as a woman than your mother did.

"That is part of what I hear rising now in so many people. A deep and growing refusal.

No, we will not normalize racism again.

No, we will not normalize misogyny again.

No, we will not surrender democracy to authoritarian impulses.

No, we will not abandon the future for the sake of wealth and power concentrated in the hands of a few. '

I so appreciate this pledge and also for your prayer today., Cameron. We MUST stand together and keep saying "NO" to those who are trying to bury justice and mercy .

Yes! Love this whole post. Your reference to “Howard Thurman once warned that the greatest danger is not simply hatred, but the deadening of the human spirit.”

Your prayer, reflection questions and action suggestions!

No court ruling, no administration, no moment in history gets to have the final word on human dignity. The losses are real. But so is the long line of people who refused to accept them. We're not the first, and that matters.

Sacred Work, indeed.

This is the sentence that hits: authoritarianism works when people start seeing it as normal.

That’s the whole scam. Take one right. Call it legal. Take another. Call it order. Take another. Call it tradition. By the time people notice the cage, someone in a robe is explaining that the locks are constitutional.

Prophetic religion is supposed to interrupt that spell, not bless it with better lighting.

We are not just losing rights. We are being trained to call the loss “stability.” Blessed are the ones who still know how to say no before the soul gets used to kneeling.

Good article. You exactly right on your points. we are in the middle of a five-alarm fire. It's time for all of and especially faith leaders to call it out. Taking a way the rights of some takes away the rights of all!
