What excitement, pure joy in winning for whatever COUNTRY WAS THE WINNER was alive in our common human spirit. In that spirit of joy-filled winning we are all winners...so is LIFE ITSELF. Thanks for the reflection and enjoy the final games.

Though I’m not a big football fan (American “football” is SO misnamed!), I’ve been a lifelong fan of the Olympic Games, summer and winter, for this very reason. Thank you for lifting up the excellence of global sport and international borderlessness. As so you so aptly close each letter, Cameron…

”We are in this together.” May we truly recognize that and live in peace.

I must admit, Rev. Cameron, that I am not the biggest football (soccer) fan, but I am during the World Cup. I live in Massachusetts, and during the early rounds of the tournament, it seemed as if the entire country of Scotland was in Boston. Thousands of the "Tartan Army" went to Red Sox games, sat together, and sang songs. It was amazing! This group also possessed an insatiable thirst for beer, having on several occasions imbibed the entire beer supply at local pubs!

Yes, just talking with a friend yesterday who had lived in the US for several years 50 years ago, and she remembered how staggered she was then at the woeful ignorance of the people around her about the rest of the world. Hopefully, this WC has made some there curious about the wonderful people the world over!

May we all dance our prayers upon the earth together, as one. Our sports have become a grotesque imperial spectacle, and yet the original spirit of sport is play. Play is the imaginal process of our individual and collective spirit. We need to play together in order to create loving relationship…. One other note to follow - has play also been co-opted for us? The World Cup shows us one form of play that is commodified and hypermasculine. What does the play of children teach us? What about intergenerational, inclusive play in the context of local community?

‘Nations’ lens, too small…

true lens, large, beyond borders.

Earth’s we-world, all one.

This is gorgeous, Rev. Cameron. Three bows, as we say in Buddhism... offering you deep gratitude and respect for this reminder.
