Thanks for this meditation Cameron. As a Canadian with so many dear friends on the American side of the border, I feel tension when some of my compatriots want to paint America with one brush. But honestly, my tethers have never been stronger. “We’re in this together” doesn’t know geographical boundaries friend.
38% approve, 56% disapprove, 7% not sure. Reported by The Economist April 27. Translation: 38 + 7 = 45% are not appalled. That’s the truth about the US citizenry that this Canadian cannot ignore.
Yesterday morning I was on a Zoom call with friends from Ireland. They are upset and worried about the state of the U.S. I felt compelled to apologize to them for our country and how we are at the moment and to reassure them that not all of us think things are OK. I have lived in their country and they in ours. Friendships and support on this level will help us endure the growing instability while we continue to resist the immorality and danger of it all.
Thank you! We are in a very challenging and, I believe, dangerous moment. My anger and outrage at what this administration is doing quickly give way to a profound sadness that can be paralyzing at times… Reading your reflections helps me to re-engage and stay awake. Thank you!
The current invitation appears to be for us to deeply remember the bonds of affection that essentially connect us all together into one vast family. With this awareness, the separation between countries, politics and religious beliefs melts away and our hearts remain free to live with honor and respect. Peace begins within and faces challenges never forgetting our most sacred treasure- unity.
This is timely for me as we leave in 4 days for 2 weeks in Italy. We had been wondering what the attitudes would be and what we might find as a reception. Knowing we can't do much about the situation, we had hoped that it wouldn't be top of mind among Italians. But of course it is, it's top of mind for the world. When we could have cultivated and celabrated our past with Italy, now we are ashamed to be Americans.
WOW, great post. I think we all needed to hear this. I know I did...sometimes I feel so guilty that the regime has discarded our friends and let our enemies get away with what they have. Peace instead of war!
The across borders conversation I heard this morning. It was a shared YouTube between the USA and Canada: USA MeidasTouch and Meidas/Canada. I posted this Comment: Democratic rep Jean Shahin from New Hampshire fights bravely and diligently on behalf of her constituency. She should be lauded by ordinary citizens across the USA for demanding accountability to all of the citizens of the USA. Kudos to Meidas USA/Canada promoting 'a more perfect union' for American and Canadian citizens.
