Love this. My father in law planted fruit trees when he was in his early 90’s knowing full well he would not live to see them bear fruit.

All winter I’ve been witnessing an old, diseased pear orchard be pulled up, soil sitting fallow then being prepared for new trees. Peaches this time. Your post puts it in a beautiful perspective. I wonder what I can plant myself. Thank you! 🙏

As a farmer, my grandfather (who lived through The Depression)said, "When the going gets tough, plant a garden and an orchard." We are always to be stewards of this marvel we call Earth. The Burgess Shale from British Columbia continues to reveal the wonderful experiment that went on during creation's forming. Rulers and autocrats only think they run the place. God will continue to be here with Jesus and the Holy Spirit alongside long after we have gone.

I have planted trees now for over 50 years wherever I have lived. It is one of the ways I pay the rent for the joy of all creation. Scott Brown, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

You did it again. Made me have HOPE and now I'm going out to buy not a tree but some spring flowers to plant and watch them grow. Thank you for your words everyday!

Beautiful. I love the work and messages of botanist Diana Beresford-Kroeger. Her book, To Speak for the Trees, was life-changing. Thank you for this message.

Old saying: The best time to plant a tree is 25 years ago. The second best is now." And this from Wendell Berry's Manifesto: The Mad Farmer Liberation Front,

Ask the questions that have no answers.

Invest in the millenium. Plant sequoias.

Say that your main crop is the forest

that you did not plant,

that you will not live to harvest.

Say that the leaves are harvested

when they have rotted into the mold.

Call that profit. Prophesy such returns.

Put your faith in the two inches of humus

that will build under the trees

every thousand years.

What helps you remain rooted in compassion and courage? You do, Cameron along with others who are helping me deal with the grief.of these past days. These meditations are profoundly healing and challenging along with the questions, prayers, and practices. I tell as many people as I can about your exquisite writing. Thank you. I am waiting to get an Amaryllis bulb to plant and I'm looking. forward to that.

Don’t believe despair...

we can keep caring, tending.

We’re not powerless.

...

Plant seeds, trees.. our feet

on this holy common ground.

Life, truth still matter.
