'Cracking' and 'Light' remind me of Canadian poet/prophet/musician Leonard Cohen's poem/song ANTHEM:

The birds they sang at the break of day

“Start again”, I heard them say:

Don’t dwell on what has passed away

or what is yet to be.

Ah, the wars they will be fought again,

the holy dove, she will be caught again,

bought and sold and bought again

the dove is never free.

We asked for signs, the signs were sent

the birth betrayed, the marriage spent,

Yeah, the widowhood of every government

signs for all to see.

I can’t run no more with that lawless crowd

while the killers in high places say their prayers out loud,

but they’ve summoned, they’ve summoned up a thundercloud

and they’re going to hear from me.

You can add up the parts, you won’t have the sum,

you can strike up the march, there is no drum,

Every heart, every heart to love will come

but like a refugee.

Ring the bells that still can ring,

forget your perfect offering,

there is a crack, a crack in everything

that’s how the light gets in.

That’s how the light gets in,

that’s how the light gets in.

Anyone who knows the reality of childbirth knows that there is pain; but oh! The joy that follows! Yet we also remember that the pain was, perhaps, not necessary, but for the sin of the apple and Eve. And it’s hard to acknowledge that we will never be as we should until Jesus comes again. My timeline is not God’s, however; and so we must keep pressing forward to do our best to bring about His Kingdom on Earth. Lord, give us your insight and strength!

This meditation (spellcheck made it “medication” - which actually fits very well, too) was very healing for me. I have been too busy, and didn’t get to read your post until today.

I spent time at a very cold, but very powerful little protest March here in Minneapolis today. One of the chants was something like “Genocide!/ Occupation!/ We will not normalize dehumanization!” Old people and young people and children marching together. People of all colors and creeds and backgrounds. I especially loved that even some of our First Nations peoples from Turtle Island were with us today.

Dorothea Sölle spoke of God’s Revolution so rightly - the undoing of what never should have been. And C. S. Lewis spoke long ago of the Deep Magic from Before the Dawn of Time that turns death and damnation back upon itself and liberates us into new life.

As I look forward to Earth Day Sunday - also Easter Sunday for some of us in this year - I think of how the seed disappears and appears dead and gone to us. But then new life springs forth!

God’s Revolution.

Deep Magic.

Gramsci wrote from inside a fascist prison cell:

“The old world is dying and the new world struggles to be born. Now is the time of monsters.”

The latter part “now is the time of monsters” - might be translated more strictly as:

“In this interregnum a great variety of morbid symptoms appear.”

Creation unfolds even as the disease that causes morbid symptoms is healed.

Creation unfolds unhindered even as the monsters are transformed.

My mind, heart, and body are very tired and I am sore after biking to the protest, marching and chanting, and then biking back to my abode. But I rejoice even amidst the terror as it unfolds. I trust that Love works the Deep Magic and the Divine Revolution from before the dawn of space and time as we know them.

We are here to love. Nothing more. Nothing less. Nothing else.
