Thank you for this important reflection. I am an Australian, but I watched 6 January happen live on TV. I was determined to see Joe Biden inaugurated, so I set the alarm to wake up and watch it happen in what was for us here the middle of the night. I was appalled and transfixed. This was happening in America! America that claimed to be a beacon for democracy in the world! And now, the world is watching again, as America moves away from all the ideals it was built upon. Justice, truth, and equality no more.

I do feel fear when I think about the unchecked power that has been allowed in Washington. Allowed because members of Congress and White House staff are also scared - they fear for their jobs and even their lives. No one is allowed to go against this president. It is unprecedented madness and yes, I fear it will lead to more and more violence. Who will stand up against Trump? Who will speak the truth? Who will put and end to the lack of accountability?

You are right but, America sits in a state of inertia/fear or whatever you want to call it. However, the world is sitting in the same state both are in the same state as Germany and the world were back in the 30s and look what happened there. And, I believe, this time is worse because the first was the first time and now, we continue to ignore history. Venezuela is the first and, not the last.

Outrage is not all bad…… sometimes outrage with measured understanding is necessary as a motivation for justice. I’m outraged….Yes, it is difficult to breathe deeply, to not respond with unchecked emotion…….But when it is evident what is at risk, we must each ask ourselves: what does non violent protest mean……. what are we willing to risk?

Thank you Cameron. So well said. ".....when truth is abandoned and power is treated as entitlement." Yes. And:

"It was the corruption of faith in service of power." Which is the most appalling.

Some African tribes teach their children that if a lion is chasing them in a dream, they must stay in the dream, stop trying to run away, face the lion (name it!) and it will disappear. Facing and naming our fears is the first step in making them disappear!

I am also reading your 60 Days of Faith for Women right now too. Today in it was the greatest commandment. Loved how one really reinforced the other. Love not violence.

“Remembrance matters.”

Truth needs “vigilance, courage,”

faith that stands, speaks up.
