May I be a bold (hopefully not smug) Canadian and suggest the US could look to Canada where we have institutionalized bilingualism and multiculturalism, where we are facing the truth of our colonialism and taking honest steps towards reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. Most of us really believe that in diversity is our strength.
So true, so true. But a bigger picture is missed, and one that hides itself so effectively. The money fuels and runs circles around all sides of this fight. Big tech, oil, and the arms industry all keep laughing all the way to the bank as they take the world and all of humanity down their sucking maelstrom. The real powers that be love the turmoil for its distraction. Yes to what was written. We are called to a single table, all in humility and willingness to love and serve one another. But the money.
As always, we each have a choice: embrace change so we can be in it together or suffocate within the walls of our own making. In God's natural world diversity stabilizes. Only humans resist….
Bad Bunny told the truth with joy! I don’t speak Spanish but it didn’t matter. I could see the story and hear the energy and celebration of a beautiful people.
Language was no barrier (though my Spanish is very rudimentary)! I was elated….. the joy was palpable.. the message clear! To see this version of America was so liberating.
Bad Bunny's sign at halftime, “The only thing more powerful than hate is love.” Hmm, this sounds like "love your neighbor" talk to me. He wasn't being anti-white or anti-English-speaking; he was being pro-love and pro-neighborly; he was being Christ-like.
Growing up in the 1940's-50's, I was fortunate enough to have parents who introduced my brother and me to the wonderful variety of people in the world. They invited international students from colleges in the area to join us for dinners, for picnics, for outings to parks. I loved learning about their languages, food, and cultures. The rich diversity of the US should be a bountiful feast for everyone to enjoy!
Thank you! Change is always scary; it's also inevitable. Life is change. And it's more enjoyable if we are all in it together. We can grieve our lost sense of place while we choose new life.
I admire your sensitivity and the clarity with which you convey the importance of this moment. As someone who arrived in this country at the age of twelve as “a Cuban political refugee,” and who is now 77, I am deeply touched by the reflective questions and the prayer you shared.
Inspired by today’s Spiritual Practice suggestion, I decided to search Spotify for various cultures “workout music” and was beyond excited to discover awesome playlists that added a whole new (and very welcome!) energy to my morning routine - Argentinian and Japanese were among my favorites today… Already looking forward to checking out other countries for tomorrow’s workout!🇦🇷❤️🎶❤️🇯🇵
"Because the backlash revealed how much has already changed. The old story has to shout now. It has to organize counter-events. It has to insist loudly on its own legitimacy. Meanwhile, the other story keeps showing up in bodies, languages, songs, and movements that refuse to disappear."
Yes, it is becoming "the old story." "The times," as the prophet says, "they are a-changin'."

Everyone belongs,
agrees this Puerto Rican.
In all, together.
Excellent! Thank you!
Funny how “All-American” always means adding a second stage instead of just sharing the first one.
When inclusion feels like erasure, it’s usually because the center was never meant to be shared.
Thank you!
