We are becoming a people all over the world. 13 No Kings marches in Germany; others in Florence, Paris, Lisbon, Rome, all over; you're not doing this alone....
This is one of the most powerful things I have read in a very long time. So often a meditation like this will be become too focused on and addressed to "God/Jesus." This is much broader yet touches upon all the finer points without limiting it to a specific religious/spiritual belief. You really touched me this morning.
I remember the Book of Samuel: The Israelites begged Samuel for a king. God told Samuel to warn the people about all the negative things a King would do to them. They still chose a king. Fast forward to now: there is a NO KINGS DAY rally across the US and other democratic countries marching in solidarity.
Each NKD has been a growing success, however, Monday morning the euphoria is going and Trump and the Reich didn’t even acknowledge this one. He had more important things like golf to attend to and the war in Iran was even secondary. Those who are waiting for the Nov ballot box are dreaming. Nov midterms will be too late. The US is broke, Trump and his Reich are getting richer with every announcement he makes and the markets react, Russia’s getting oil revenues, Hegseth’s got religion(his kind) and Iran is in the driver’s seat.
Will there be a midterm election or a World War???
Your words today prompt me to share a poem I wrote after the election of 2024.
Float
Now that we’ve learned that we’re
not who we thought, and the sirens
beckon us below despair’s depths
to live in the wreckage of other
sunken dreams, resigned to a diet
of salt and dark, we must remember
who we wish to be and kick back
to the surface to fill our lungs with
that which makes us float.
Hope will keep us buoyed.
When we can breathe, we’ll see
the others just below the waves who
need our hands to help them rise.
Who knows how long we’ll bob,
tethered with kindness and an
audacious certainty that it is
as one that we shall live?
