Piloting Faith: I should be ranting...

A Word for the Day...
I should be ranting about the Alabama abortion law that just passed. It's despicable. I've been reading lots of strong words of outrage - people pointing out that this law is based in racism, economic oppression, and sexism. After all, it's poor women of color who will be hurt the most by this law. It's one more attack against the vulnerable in our community. Yet people - white people in particular - will deny this, blinding themselves to the rampant racism in our own souls.
Instead of ranting this time, I want to simply acknowledge the fatigue of the fight. We must keep resisting, but it helps also to say that it's exhausting to live in a world so deeply divided. In very real ways, we are fighting for our lives and those we also know to be children of God, our brothers and sisters. We are learning about resilience.
Perhaps that is what is most heartbreaking - that those who battle on the other "side" do so waving the Christian banner. They sit in their churches thinking that God would applaud their hate.
This law that just passed is reprehensible. We must fight it with everything we have. But I think we should also say...this constant battle is heartbreaking and can wear you out. If you need a self-care day, see the bingo card below. Play it often.

Blessing for the Week
May the God who dwells with those called outspoken, traitors, and subversive dwell also with you, writing peace across your soul. Go with God, speaking hope, singing memory, and dancing justice in your land.
